| The
Art Coalition
Strange and in the Street
by Anthony McBride
Amy
Davis Roth of the Art Coalition in NoHo is at
it yet again, and thankfully, she's not showing any
signs of ever stopping. Every second Saturday of the
month, the Roth puts on a street fair in NoHo that
is all about art, music and counter-culture.
At
the February 8th street fair, the NoHo experience
was in full throttle with an array of artists exhibiting
work on the sidewalk outside the Art Coailition and
in an adjacent alley (blocked off thanks to the support
of councilman Tom LaBonge's office). Different
bands played live music. DJs spun street sounds and
electronic dance music. And there was a fashion show
inside and out of sexy clothing store Vavoom
that shop owner Dave Dion is known for.
But
all this excitement wasn't the only highlight; painter
Adam Strange was the featured artist. His work
is so dead-on with today's current state of pre-war
and pseudo-terrorism and change. The Grand
Inevitable Series, as his latest collection
of paintings are called, has chaotic and futuristic
themes very reminiscent of German painter Paul
Wunderlich, with a real urban quality and youthfulness.
They combine fantasy and reality in ever-new variations
so that from them he creates a fantastic reality.
Strange is also a filmmaker, and I can only imagine
how relevant his films are. This is a true artist
with vision and fortitude. I expect to see exciting
things from the strangeness that is Adam |

Strange.
On
March 8th, Roth is having a benefit reception at the
Coalition, and tons of local art will be brought in.
These works will be priced to sell, and a month long
silent auction will also be housed at the space.
The
Art Coalition is located in NoHo at 5227 Lankershim
Blvd. 818-506-0938. For more information on Adam Strange,
