What is a Giclée Fine Art Print?

A Giclée fine art print is a digital reproduction using the best quality, state-of-the-art inkjet technology. The name's origin is from the French word Giclée (pronounced Zhee-Clay) which translated means “fine spray".

Not any digital print is a Giclée however, only fine art prints created on special high resolution printers qualify as Giclée prints. These printers are exceptionally high resolution and are equipped with specially formulated pigment based inks that adhere to strict archival standards.

The printing surface is carefully carried by spinning roller while infinitely small pixels of rich, vibrant UltraChrome, pigment based, inks are sprayed on it at high speed. This creates an incredibly consistent image true to the original work of art. Giclée Fine art prints on archival surfaces are the highest quality fine art reproduction you can buy.

The Giclée print is widely embraced for its astonishing quality by the world's finest artists, galleries, and museums. It's archival quality and amazing workmanship are equally comparable to the traditional printing techniques (etching, lithography, woodcut) of the masters, but while these traditional formats have several limitations in image quality, a Giclée Print is very simply the closest replication of an original work currently possible.

What are the advantages of Giclée?

Quality: Extremely beautiful prints with rich vibrant colors and fine details that no other print making methods can compare to.

Longevity: Giclée prints, with their archival pigments and papers, will out last any process-color lithographs or photographs. These color fast UltraChrome inks ar rated light-fast for 100 years.

Artist Materials: Giclée prints can be produced on virtually any artist's materials. This ability to print on authentic fine art surfaces gives each print the fine art authenticity collectors have come to expect.

Color: Giclée prints are better able to reproduce fine colors and detail better than any traditional printmaking method.

How do I take care of my Giclée fine art prints?
As with all fine art prints, Giclée prints on fine art paper should be handled with care, proper framing behind UV glass is recommended. Giclée printed on canvas are sprayed with a clear UV resistant top-coating that is water-resistant and filters out 99% of harmful UV light. UV resistant varnish also has the beneficial effect of enhancing the colors of the final image. All prints should be kept out of direct sunlight.
